Best Noise Cancelling Headphones under $50

Tired of background noise getting in the way of your music? I hate when I have to up my volume just because people around me are chatting or due to loud traffic noise. But it happens often.

Even when I manage to override the noise by increasing volume, it still ruins the experience because it’s like pitting one sound against another. At the end of the battle, my ears end up as collateral damage.

The best solution to this problem is to use noise cancelling headphones. In this article I’ve picked the best headphones under $50 that cancel noise, provide high quality sound and are made from strong and durable material.

I also believe these 5 headphones have a nice look to them, and that’s certainly a bonus.

Without further ado, let’s check them out!

#1. Mpow 059 Bluetooth Headphones over Ear

The Mpow 059 Bluetooth Headphones provide a blend of solid features, quality material and an attractive design. They’re also pretty affordable and that’s definitely a plus.

Pros

The number one quality on which headphones should be judged is the sound quality, and the Mpow 059 holds its ground well in this regard. It provides clear sound regardless of the environmental noise.

They can last you for as long as 20 hours in wireless mode following a single charge, and can of course be used indefinitely when wired.

The ear cushion is average sized and comfortable, while its portable design makes it a good choice for travel or work.

Cons

The Mpow 059 uses passive noise isolation technology (passive noise cancellation) rather than active noise cancellation. Basically, this means that it’s the design of the headphones that provides noise cancellation, rather than a digital filter.

PNS works well in most situations. But if you plan on using headphones at places like loud construction sites, you’d want to invest in active noise cancellation headphones. In regular life, passive noise cancellation works just fine.

All things considered, Mpow 059 are one of the top lower budget headphones at the moment. Great sound, comfort, durable hard plastic and  solid noise cancellation are all there. I personally also like the design, but that’s a highly subjective topic, so I leave it for you to decide.

#2. Edifier H650 Hi-Fi On-Ear Headphones

The Edifier H650 Hi-Fi headphones are another great choice. It’s dimensions are smaller than the others, which makes it a good choice for travel. They can be easily carried in smaller bags or backpacks.

Pros

Made of soft, smooth leather, the ear cups of the Edifier H650 are comfortable and can last for a long period of time.

Likewise, the headband is made of strong and flexible material. The reinforced steel component on the headband ensures that the headphones can last for years.

The audio quality is quite satisfying. With large 40 mm drivers crafted from high quality neodymium, it can reproduce high and low frequencies with great clarity. If you like to listen to binaural beats and isochronic tones, this is an important quality.

But I would still point out that the biggest pros of these headphones is their design. Due to the foldable and lightweight design, they take little space and are practical for taking on trips.

Cons

The one major issue to be had with the Edifier H650 headphone is its miniature sized ear cups. Those with above average sized ears will find it a little too small.

However, if you can bear with that, or if your ears are small enough, the noise isolation feature combined with high quality audio make it a great choice for its price.

#3. Conambo Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

Affordable and stylish, these Conambo headphones are quite appealing. But their real worth lies in other areas as well.

Pros

Like the H650 above, the Conambo active noise cancelling headphones are fitted with rather smallish looking earcups. But they are designed to fit well over any ear size.

Its thick ear cup padding and slightly thinner headband padding ensures that this headphone is really comfortable. The metal rail in the headbands provides a sturdy base for the ear cups, at the same time acting as an adjustment system – enabling it to fit with different head sizes.

Many headphones suffer from sound distortion when the volume is set to maximum, but these ones don’t. They have a crisp clear sound, with an admirable bass.

Sound clarity is further amplified when you turn on the noise cancelling feature, allowing you to focus on your music without external disturbances.

Cons

While active noise cancellation prevents ambient noise from filtering in, really loud sounds still get through. But if your main focus is to isolate yourself from chatter and traffic sounds, they work great.

If you have sensitive ears, you might also notice a very slight dip in bass levels when the noise cancelling feature is turned on. But that doesn’t alter the listening experience in any significant way.

#4. Alltrum Foldable Over-Ear Wireless Headphone

If you want a multi-player headphone that is super comfortable and has a LONG set of features, the Alltrum Foldable Wireless Headphone is the optimal choice.

Pros

The Alltrum wireless headphone is equipped with multiple playing modes. With support for wireless, Micro SD Card playback, Line-in, and FM radio modes, you can play or listen to music in whichever way is most convenient at the time.

Comfort levels are also pretty high. The soft pads provide a relaxing over-head cushion. It’s also pretty flexible so even big-headed folks can wear these.

These headphones also have great sound quality, which gets even better when the noise cancelling feature is enabled. Music clarity combined with foldable design makes them a great commute companion.

Cons

The ear cups are fairly small and will likely sit on the ear of those with larger than average sized ears. However, I’m not sure whether that’s open to criticism. It’s part of the noise cancelling functionality of this headphone, so it’s meant to be that way.

#5. FMLoves Active Noise Cancelling Headphone

There’s a lot to like about this FMLoves headphone. High battery power, charming design and active noise cancelling functionality are all present.

Pros

Due to the strong Li-ion battery, these headphones can last up to 20 hours of continuous wireless usage, and can also be connected and used with wire indefinitely.

It has solid noise cancellation capabilities for a budget headphone, and strong 40 mm stereo drivers that can rival higher priced models when it comes to clear sound and bass.

It is also designed with comfort and convenience in mind, as you’d notice in the soft, comfy ear pads and foldable design.

Cons

Turning off the noise cancelling feature can lead to a reduction in audio quality, lower pitched audio in particular. However, this change is not that noticeable, unless you’re an audiophile who notices slight changes in sound.

With that being said, these headphones can rival more expensive headphones in many areas, including sound quality.

Final Thoughts

These are the best noise cancellation headphones under $50 in my opinion.

I know that some headphone lovers focus primarily on sound quality, but I also wanted to point out other features that are important in the long run, such as durability, comfort and practicality.

I don’t like over-sized headphones because it’s difficult to carry them around and you also end up looking like a tool if you wear them in public.

I also prefer headphones that combine sturdy materials that increase longevity, and soft materials where it matters to ensure comfort.

These 5 models are also pretty aesthetic, and the headband can be adjusted a lot depending on head size and wearing preference.

My personal favorite are the FMLoves headphones, because I like the design, sound quality and the manufacturer is well known for producing headphones that last.

But overall, all 5 of these headphones provide a solid, affordable choice for listening to music, podcasts and audiobooks while cancelling noise from the environment.
